Aquatic
Paradise
This
recipe is ideal to relieve stress
and also to leave behind cold
ridden contemporaries: blue
sky all year round; a pleasant
temperate climate; convenient
travel time (only a few hours
flight from Europe); a trophical
sea lined with fine sandy beaches
(nearly 1500 km); coral reefs
renounced by experienced divers
as amongst the best in the world.
On its shores: holiday resorts
with quality, affordable hotels
to which one eagerly returns
on a regular basis (and also
holidays homes that one can
acquire ownership off) and where
there is in addition a multicoloured
bouquet of shopping, sport and
leisure activities. And inland
: spectacular desert mountains
perfect for both trekking and
seeking one’s inner peace of
mind. Does this whet your appetite?
Welcome to “Egypt’s Riviera”,
the Red Sea and Sinal coast,
the holiday world of the future!
Hurghada
: West coast cradle of holiday
tourism for swimming and diving
The
former fishing village (about
400 km south of suez), became
a booming tourism town on the
West coast of the Red Sea, in
the space of only one generation.
Today it offers ideal conditions
for all kinds of water sports,
as well as miles and miles of
coastline (reaching as
far as to Makadi and Soma Bay)
with quality accommodation,
restaurants and entertainment
to suit all tastes. Accordingly,
Hurghada’s beach – and nightlife
leaves nothing to be desired
with regards to liveliness and
internationality. A wide variety
of special attractions provide
extra entertainment such as
the sea aquarium or the panorama
submarine, not to forget two
superb golf courses. Well worth
a day-trip are the offshore
islands and the inland desert
mountains.
El Gouna:
perfect holiday atmosphere at
the turquoise-blue lagoon
Lying
just 20 km north of Hurghada,
this modern holiday resort,
planned on the drawing board,
is the perfect destination for
stress-free family vacations
as well as long-term stays.
The resort includes 14 exclusive
hotels, numerous private mansions,
apartments, restaurants, discos,
shopping malls, a stylishly
designed 18 hole golf course,
diving and leisure centres.
It stretches over an extensive
archipelago of artificial islands
– a small cosmopolitan city,
conjured out of the desert sand
as a fanciful mixture of various,
harmoniously co-ordinated architectural
traditions and internationally
acclaimed for its role model
in environmentally sound building
and operation
Marsa
Alam & Port Ghalib: where the
future has already begun
130
km south of Ei Quseir, the youngest
star in Egypt holidays skies
shines brightly. Marsa Alam
was the starting point in the
1990s for the development of
the coastal region in the far
south. There is a rich abundance
of sea fauna and the tourism
development potential is huge.
It has since become an extensive
resort complex with its own
airport and several high quality
hotels. The latest flagship
project in the region lies 60
km further north, at the shore
of an artificial arm of the
sea, Port Ghalib. With
its yatching club and harbour
meeting the most modern quality
standards, this top class holiday
resort sees itself as a the
central hub for water sports
in this part of the Red Sea
Sharm
el-Sheikh: pure pleasure and
colourful activities under water
and on land
A
few decades ago this was just
another insignificant fishing
village, today Sharm el-Sheikh
(close to the southern tip of
the Sinal) enjoys the reputation
of being an international hub
amongst divers and holidaymakers.
As the chic epicenter of the
pulsating “Riviera on the Red
Sea” is the Naama Bay. Nevertheless,
the tourist infrastructure in
other bays leaves nothing to
be desired either (from those
of Sharm EI-Maya up to Nabq
Bay). Other than the flat sand
beaches and manifold leisure
pleasures (over 25 km long holiday
area), the biggest attraction
is no doubt the fascinating
underwater sea world. In particular,
the reefs at Ras Umm Sid and
the nearby
Ras Mohammed National Park are
especially rich in feasts for
the eye.
Dahab
& Inland: relaxation in paradise
for dropouts and adventure in
the South Sinai Mountains
Along
the east coast of the Sinai,
the mountain backdrop is one
of outstanding dramatic beauty.
Like prehistoric giant dragons,
the summits push forward with
their high, serrated combs almost
to the shores of the gulf of
Aqaba, Dahab, the tourist centre,
with its Bedouin camps and golden
beaches, has kept the easygoing
charm of a 1970s hippy idyll,
even though it boasts numerous
luxury hotels. The National
Park Ras Abu Gallum diving area
here is breathtakingly magnificent.
And inland, quite close, some
of the most spectacular sites
to be seen are the coloured
Canyon and Mount Sinai, at the
foot of which lies the legendary
St. Catherine’s Monastery.
Nuweiba
& Taba: two ports for recuperation
and recreation in the north
of the Gulf of Aqaba
About
90 km north of Dahab lies Nuweiba,
a comparatively calm hideaway
for nature lovers. The trade-marks,
here too, are fine sandy beaches
in front of cragged cinnamon
coloured mountain ranges, and
close by wonderful multi-coloured
reefs. The same applies for
Taba, the border town 75 km
away. Both offer excellent hotel
complexes and great sport activities
above and below water for energetic
holidaymakers. In addition,
there is a wide variety of guided
camel and desert tours on offer.
