Arabic is the official language of Dubai while English is the
language of business, though it competes with Hindi and Urdu as the
lingua franca. You will have little trouble making yourself
understood, although when you venture out into rural areas you will
find that English is not as widely spoken or understood. Signs in
Dubai are generally in Arabic a null English and you'll find that
telephone automation systems (for government department — and banks)
allow you to choose between the two.
Knowing the Iranian language, Farsi, will win you some fast friends.
Hindi, Urdu Malayalam (the language of Kerala in India) are all
reasonably useful because of the la number of Indian and Pakistani
expats you will come in contact with.
