One Day |
|
Dubai's city has historically centred around
the Creek, so with only one day, start right on the waterfront
near the UK embassy . Take in the very modern Dubai Creek
sky-line over in Deira while walking to the Bas-takia Quarter to
check out the restored
houses. Head to the excellent Dubai Museum to get a historical
perspective of Dubai. After
that, stroll to Sheikh Saeed al-Maktoum House for the
architecture and the old photographs of Dubai. Then to the
Heritage Village and a late lunch of traditional Middle Eastern
dishes at KanZaman . After lunch take an abra across to
Deira, checking out the dhows and life on the Creek.
|
 |
Follow your
nose into the Deira Spice Souq and if you want some
more
history head to the Al-Ahmadiya School and Heritage House or
straight up to the deira Gold Souq . If the shopping bug bites visit Deira City Centre for
the shopping and
social scene. A trip to Dubai is incomplete without seeing the
BurjAI Arab and a five-star beach hotel, so kill two birds with
one stone with a drink at the Bahri Bar at the Mina A'salam. For
dinner, if you feel like hanging out back on the Creek and it's
not too hot, head to Fatafeet for a feast and sheesha
(water pipe). For a taste of Morocco head and straight outside
to the Shisha Courtyard .

Three Day |
|
As you have more time you could spread out the above itinerary over
two days and in-clude drink at the Burj Al Arab , a sunset dhow
cruise and perhaps playtime at Wild Wadi for the kid in all of us.
Try some shopping and a cheap meal at Karama . perhaps dine at the
Hilton Dubai Creek's Glasshouse or, for some true fine dining, try
its more famous sister, Gordon Ramsay's Verre . A night out clubbing
is a must in Dubai so head to ShoCho's , followed by neighbouring
Boudoir . A trip to Sharjah should be included, especially for those
who want to do more shopping or check out the art scene. A trip to
the desert is also a must and the easiest way is to take a desert
safari. Given all the misinformation in the media about Islam and
Arabs, take the Jumeirah Mosque tour and don't be shy - ask some
questions. |

One Week |
|
If the desert safari has whetted your appetite for more scenery, get out
of town by checking out the Excursions chapter . This includes East
Coast destinations Khor Fakkan and Fujairah , as well as the oasis
city of Al-Ain and the peaceful retreat of Hatta. On your final day
do your last-minute shopping. Pick up that carpet you can't stop
thinking about and then head for a dinner with a view, either at
Eauzone or Zheng He's . While The Palm might be visible from space,
it's also visible from the Rooftop Bar , where you can chill,
Arabian style, and see the lights from Dubai next jaw-dropping
resort. |
