۞ About Yamunotri

The source of the Yamuna River and the first stop on the Garhwal circuit. Yamunotri attracts around 1500 pilgrims per day during the tourist season. Yamnotri, whether or not it qualifies as a town, consists of the two temples devoted to the goddess Yamuna and the river bearing her name, the hot springs, and the dhabas lining the trail up to the temples. The original structure was built by Rani Gularia of Jaipur during the 19th century but was soon worn down by heavy snowfall. The elements continue to erode away at the temple that took the place of the original, making it essential to rebuild the structure every few years. The temple’s architecture is not special-just a slapdash construction with dressed-up concrete walls and a corrugated metal roof. It is carried to Kharsoli, a village opposite Janki Chatti.

۞ How To Reach :

Yamnotri is accessable only by a 14km trek from the town of Hanuman Chatti (213m) or by a shared jeep ride on unkept roads to Janki Chatti (257 m), 8km past Hanuman Chatti, and then a 6km trek. To reach Hanuman Chatti, either take a bus directly from Rishikesh (209 km) or take a bus from Uttarkashi to Barkot (84km)

There are police posts in Janki Chatti, as well as a seasonal one in Yamnotri. A small pharmacy sells the basics in Hanuman Chatti, while there are clinics in both Hanuman Chatti’s, min markets. Janki Chatti’s clinik is only open May-Oct. The only public phone close to Yamnotri is in Janki Chatti’s Hotel Arvina Annex. A year round post office is in Hanuman Chatti,s main market.
