About Uttaranchal:

Uttaranchal, now known as Uttarakhand became the 27th state of India on 9th November, 2000 . Uttarakhand borders Tibet to the north, Nepal to the east, and the states of Himachal Pradesh in west Uttar Pradesh in the south. The region is traditionally referred to as Uttarakhand in Hindu scriptures and old literature, a term which derives from the Sanskrit for Northern Country or Section. In January 2007, its name was officially changed to Uttakhand on the demand of a large section of its people. The provisional capital of Uttarakhand is Dehradun which is also a rail-head and the largest city in the region.

History Of Uttaranchal:

Uttaranchal is mentioned in the ancient Hindu scriptures as Kedarkhand,Himavat and Manakhand. The Kushanas, Kudinas, Kanishka, Samudra, Gupta, the Pauravas, Katuris, Palas, the Chandras and Pawaras and the British have ruled on Uttaranchal in past time. It is often called the Land of the Gods (Dev Bhoomi) because of its various holy places and shrines. The hilly regions of Uttaranchal offer unspoilt landscapes to the tourist -pilgrim.

Phisiography Of Uttaranchal

With the region of outstanding natural beauty, most of the northern parts of the state are part of Himalaya ranges, covered by the high Himalayan peaks and glaciers

There is a very wide area for the National Parks in Uttaranchal as 'Jim Corbett National Park', which is the oldest national park of India, at Ramnagar in Nainital, 'Rajaji National Park' in Haridwar, 'Valley of Flowers' National Park and 'Nanda Devi Park' in Chamoli, 'Govind Pashu Vihar National Park' and 'Gangotri National Park' in Uttarkashi.
