Lal Niwas, built in 1750, is
a splendid example of a heritage 'haveli', a
rich merchant's mansion, with intricate 'jalli'
work in red sandstone, with the order of
workmanship and artistry testifying not only
to the skills of the artisans but the wealth
and status of the owner. Situated in the
picturesque, historic town of Phalodi in
Jodhpur, Rajasthan, Phalodi is also renowned
for its old Jain and Hindu temples which are
over 300 years old. The grand Lal Niwas
haveli with its many splendoured traditional
balconies and terraces provides a magical
