Jaipur, the colourful
capital of a richly colourful state, is a
highly distinctive planned city, made all
the more attractive by the pink wash that
most buildings are periodically given. It is
deservedly included on the popular tourist
'Golden Triangle' of Delhi-Jaipur-Agra. It
has some fine museums in the atmospheric Old
City with its. bazars, palaces and havelis,
as well as a couple of forts and Amber
nearby which an well worth exploring.
The city was born out of the vision and
prudent urban planning of the 18th-century
Rajput leader Maharaja Sawai jai Singh II,
who ruled the region from 1699 to 1744.
