The
'new' Hall of Public Audience built
by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh
(1778-1803) today houses a fine
collection of Persian and Indian
miniatures, some of the carpets the
Maharajas had made for them and an
equally fine collection of
manuscripts. To its north is the
Carriage Museum. In the iddle of the
west wall of the Diwan-i-Am
courtyard, opposite the art gallery,
is the Ganesh Pol, which leads via a
narrow passage and the Peacock Gate
into Pritam Niwas Chowk. This
courtyard has the original palace
building 'Chandra Mahal' to its
north, the zenana on its northwest,
and the Anand Mahal to its south.
Several extremely attractive doors,
rich and vivid in their peacock
blue, aquamarine and amber colours,
have a small marble Hindu God watching over them.
