Deogarh (devgarh) is an
excellent place to break journey
between jaipur or pushkar, and
Udaipur to visit sights nearby.
It is a very pleasant, little
frequented town with a dusty but
interesting bazaar. It's
elevation makes it relatively
cool and the countryside and
Surrounding hills are good for
gentle treks.
There is an old fort on a hill
as well as a Magnificent palace
on a hillock in the centre with
murals illustrating the fine
local School of miniature
painting.
Raghosagar lake, which is very
pleasant to walk around, has an
island with a romantic ruined
temple and tombs (poor monsoons
for three years had left the
lake dry in 2001). It attracts
numerous migratory birds and is
an attractive setting for the
charming 200 year old palace
gokal vilas the home fo the
present rawat saheb nahar
singhji and the ranisahiba their
two sons have opened the
renovated 17th century deogarh
mahal palace to guests ; the
rawat ,a knowledgeable historian
and art connoisseur has a privat
collec tion of over 200paintings
which guests may view.
