Alwar is the major city
of the district, with big markets. But the
tourist would find the old bazaars such as
Churi Bazaar near Hope Circle most
interesting. Alwar is famous for its shellac
bangles, and here they sell two thick karas.
In all, there are about 15 bangle shops in
this market, such as Rajasthan Bangle Store
and Rajesh Bangle Store. Shops selling
Alwar's famous milk cake or kalakand line
the main road between Hope Circus and the
Clock Tower, where the sweet is sold. Marble
sculptors have their workshops at Ghora Pher
ka Chauraha, on the road to Siliserh Lake.
There are about a dozen workshops with names
like Shiv Murti, Jai Shri Ram Murti and
Deepak Murti, and they use the stone mined
within the district at Pratapgarh. While
they specialise in religious idols and busts
of national leaders, they also sculpt
designs and statues on order.
