About Mandi : |
The town of Mandi, on the
Beas River, is the gateway to the Kulu
Valley. From here you climb up the narrow,
spectacular gorge of the river and emerge
from this grey and barren stretch into the
green and inviting Kulu Valley. At an
altitude of only 760 metres it is still
quite hot, mainly serves as a travel
crossroads as its name, which means
'market', might suggest. Mandi is 202 km
north of Chandigarh and 110 km south of
Manali. The road from Pathankot and
Dharamsala (150 km away) also meet here
whether you are going south to Chandigarh or
north to the Kulu Valley. The town is famous
for its beautiful stone carved temples
Bhutnath, Triloknath, Panchavaktra,
Ardhanari and Shyamakli. The Rewabar Lake, a
pilgrimage centre for Hindus, Buddhists and
Sikhs, is 24 km away.
