The Kulu Valley is full of
spinners and weavers, mostly men, and the
fine shawls made in Kulu are very popular,
These are made from the fleece shed in the
summer by mountain goats. The shawls made
from pashmina hair from the pashmina goat
are the finest. Chamba is well known for its
leather chappals (sandals). In the high
Himalayas fleecy soft blankets known as
gudmas are woven, and traditional rugs and
namdas. In the bazaars you can find locally
made jewellery and metalwork. Tibetan
handicrafts include coral jewellery, Tibetan
carpets and religious paraphernalia.
